Freshman English
All students must complete the Short Story Packet. This packet will be provided by the English Department. The instructions in the packet explain what work must be done for College Prep and Honors levels. This assignment will be 10% of the first marking period.
Required Summer Reading for Incoming Honors Ninth Graders (L401, L411)
In addition, all students in Honors A or B English classes must read one book from the two listed below during the summer. Each student will be required to write about one aspect of this book during the first week of school. It would be advantageous to take notes on the characters, plot, and author’s writing style while reading the selected book.
WHEN I WAS PUERTO RICAN—Esmeralda Santiago’s memoir describing her childhood in rural Puerto Rico and her teenage years in New York City.
IN COLD BLOOD—Truman Capote reconstructs the 1959 murder of a Kansas farm family and the investigation that led to the capture, trial, and execution of the killers.

All students must complete the English History Cohort Packet. Instructions in the packet explain all expectations. This packet will be made available by the English and History Departments.
