These scholarships are available to any student at Mainland Regional High School.

 

NAME: Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition         9 - 12th Graders    Deadline: November 1, 2008
               Veterans of Foreign Wars of the USA

AMOUNT: Several scholarships from $1,000 to $30,000
                     All expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C.

CRITERIA: Recorded essay on cassette tape or CD of between 3 to 5 minutes.

NAME: American Legion Oratorical Contest                9 - 12  grader

AMOUNT: 1st  place is $18,000     2nd  place is $16,000     3rd  place is $14,000
                     Regional participants receive $1,500
                     Finals participants receive $1,500

CRITERIA: Obtain contest rules from your local Legion Post.

NAME: Samsung American Legion Scholarship               Juniors

AMOUNT: In 2007 10 @ $20,000 and 90 @ $1,000 were awarded

CRITERIA: Must participate in either an American Legion Boys State Program  or
                      American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Program.
                      Must be a direct descendant of a US veteran.
                      Applications obtained from your local Legion Post or www.legion.org

NAME: American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year

AMOUNT: $10,000     3 runners-up receive $2,500

CRITERIA: Registered active member of a Boy Scout Troop, Varsity Scout Team,
                      or Venturing Crew chartered to an American Legion Post or Auxiliary.
                      Obtain application from State American Legion Department Headquarters.

NAME: NJIT Web Design Competition                                                                   Deadline: December 14, 2007

AMOUNT: Win cash awards and door prizes.

CRITERIA: Team competition for 3-5 students at NJIT campus.

NAME: Rider's Annual High School Writing Contest                                      Deadline: December 14, 2007

AMOUNT: 1st place - $100          2nd place - $50          3rd place - $25

CRITERIA: Letter from teacher stating work is original. Typed Essay, Fiction or Poetry.

NAME: Drug Free NJ Contest                                                                                    DEADLINE: January 11, 2008

NAME: Toshiba/NSTA Exploravision Awards                                                         Deadline: January 29, 2008

AMOUNT: 1st place: (4 TEAMS) $10,000 US Series EE bond
                    2nd place: (4 TEAMS) $ 5,000 US Series EE bond
                    Regional Prize: (24 teams) a notebook computer 

CRITERIA: Team competition of 2, 3 or 4 students. Technology innovation.
                      Written description and 5 graphics simulating web pages.

NAME: Discover Card Scholarships                     JUNIORS ONLY                      DEADLINE: January 31, 2008

AMOUNT:  Up to 10 national scholarship of $ 30, 000

CRITERIA: Criteria statement, Goals statement, Official high school transcript.
                      Community service verification form, Make two copies of the originals.

NAME: The National Society of Arts & Letters Scholarship                               Deadline: February 1, 2008
           Naomi Winston Scholarship

AMOUNT: Compete for $5,000 in each area

CRITERIA: 3 visual art students and 3 vocal students to compete, 16 to 22 years of age.
                      The art works must be original, realistic, abstract or expressive.
                      Must be a citizen of the United States. CD or DVD images in JPEG form.

NAME: American Legion Auxiliary Girl Scout Award       9-12 graders         Deadline: February 11, 2008

AMOUNT: $1,000

CRITERIA: Must be a Gold Award recipient. Active member of her religious institution and
                      must have received the appropriate religious emblem.

NAME: New Jersey 2006 Business Idea Competition            9 - 12 Graders      DEADLINE: February 15, 2008
               Fairleigh Dickinson University

AMOUNT: Winner $400.00          4 Finalists @ $200.00          8 Semi-Finalists @ $100.00

AMOUNT: $ 30,000.00 in prizes and awards

CRITERIA: Be at least 14 years of age and under 18 years of age.
                      Single, never married nor have given birth to a child.
                      US citizen and a resident of New Jersey.
                      Recent photograph with your name printed on the back.
                      Judged in 3 categories: Personal Interview, Swimsuit and Evening Gown.

NAME: Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation                                                       Deadline: April 16, 2007

AMOUNT: $500 to $10,000

CRITERIA: Son, daughter or grandchild (WW2) of a Marine on active duty or in the Reserve.
                      Son, daughter or grandchild (WW2) of a former Marine or Marine Reservist who has received an
                                   Honorable Discharge, Medical Discharge or killed in the service.
                      Son, daughter or grandchild (WW2) of an active duty, reserve or former US Navy Corpsman who is
                                   serving or has served with the US Marine Corps.
                      Family income is $65,000 or less. 2.0 or higher GPA.

NAME: Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation                                                    Deadline: April 16, 2007
              " Heroes Tribute Scholarship"

AMOUNT: Up to $20,000

CRITERIA: Child or grandchild of a Marine or Navy Corpsmen serving with the Marines
                      whose parent is killed in the ongoing Global War on Terror.
                      No income limit. 2.0 or higher GPA.

NAME: Alexander Hamilton Citizenship Achievement Award                          Deadline: April 21, 2007

AMOUNT: $500.00

CRITERIA: Juniors only.  School and community activities. 100 word Essay.

NAME: 2007 Holocaust Remembrance Project               9 - 12th Graders        DEADLINE: APRIL 30, 2007

AMOUNT: 10 First Place Winners: Paid trip to Wash. D.C. plus $1,000 to $5,000 plus a Gold Medal
