Welcome to Lady Stangs Country!
Home of the Shootout
at the Shore!
Mainland Regional
High School, located eight miles southwest of Atlantic City, serves the
municipalities of Linwood, Northfield, and Somers Point -- total population
25,000. The community is primarily residential and was featured in New Jersey
Monthly Magazine as one of the “top 25 communities to call home.”
Mainland is an academically oriented four-year public school with an enrollment
of approximately 1600 students. Mainland’s students are served by
140 faculty members, and 50 support personnel. The school is fully accredited
by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the New Jersey
Department of Education.
In 1997-98 Mainland was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence
by the United States Department of Education. Washington Post writer Jay
Matthews ranked our school sixth in New Jersey and 111th in the nation in
his book, “Class Struggles: What’s Wrong (and Right) with America’s
Best Public High Schools,” based on our efforts at exposing students
to challenging course work. In New Jersey Magazine’s September 2002
issue, Mainland was ranked fifth among high schools in Southern New Jersey.
Mainland is a member
of the Cape Atlantic League. Currently the Cape-Atlantic League comprises
21 schools from Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Gloucester counties.
It has developed into one of the most successful leagues in the State
of New Jersey.
The Mainland "Lady
Stangs" have a history of excellence dating back to their beginnings.
Success is seen in many ways. The "Lady Stangs" have qualified
for the state playoffs 22 straight years in a row which is a CAL record.
During that time, Mainland has played for 5 South Jersey Group III titles
winning 3. Mainland has also won numerous Cape Atlantic conference titles
during this time. Mainland shows its basketball excellence with 20 girls
going on and playing basketball in college on full or partial scholarships.
Mainland is also the
host of the Future Stars "SHOOTOUT
AT THE SHORE." This event has been called the Premier Girls high
school event of the season. Twenty-four teams will play at Mainland over
three days in February. All the information about the Shootout can be
found on the Shootout at the Shore link. The excitement should continue
year after year.
