Rollins and E made finalist status coming from a pool of 16,000 semifinalists named earlier in the year and have met all requirements to advance to finalist standing in the competition. |

Guest Artists Patty Blee and Erine Trionfo will speak to Mainland Regional High School Popular Songwriting classes (and others) and perform in the MRHS Library on Fri. Feb. 29th. from 10:45 to 12:20
Patty Blee is a local singer-songwriter who has released an album of original material.
She also plays out locally. She is a regular at the Library III on the BHP in EHT.
She will be answering questions about the songwriting process, performing live and dealing with the music industry.

The South Jersey Coaches Association of Boys Athletics will be inducting Whitey Haak at their 2008 Hall of Fame Banquet on Wednesday March 5 at Auletto's in Almonsesson at 6:30PM. Tickets are $35 and reservations are needed by February 29.
The NJSIAA Coaches Association will be having their Hall of Fame Awards Luncheon on Sunday April 6 at noon at Pines Manor in Edison. Both Bob Coffey and Dan Heyman are being honored at this event. Tickets are $ 50 per person. Reservations are needed by March 20.

Congressman Frank LoBiondo visited Mainland Regional High School Tuesday February 19 to speak to the AP Government class and Political Science Club on the role of a U.S. Congressman. The AP Government class is currently studying about Congress.

Congratulations to Poetry Out Loud School Champion Regina Palombo. She will go on and compete in the Regional Final on February 22nd at Rutgers Camden for a trip to the State Finals on March 27th. Mainland Regional High School senior Colleen McGroarty signed her letter of intent to West Chester University on Thursday February 7. Colleen is a four year varsity soccer starter and will be playing for West Chester. Colleen was 1st team all conference and made the All South Jersey All Star Team She was also the Press of Atlantic City's co-player of the year. Colleen is also a four year starter on the swim team and was a member of the New Jersey State champion relay team. Congratulations Colleen

Jenna Feldman to compete in Russia for FIS World Jr. Championships

The governing body for snowboarding, the USSA announced today that Jenna Feldman of Linwood, New Jersey will be one of three women on the US team that will compete in the 2008 FIS World Junior Championships in snowboardcross. According to the USSA, selection criteria for the team is based on, “world-class performances during a period of elite-level competition.” The USSA states that they “select only the most qualified athletes between 15 and 19 years old with the greatest opportunities for winning medals at the 2008 FIS Junior World Championships. The 2008 FIS World Junior Championships will be held in Russia from March 22 – 28.”
Jenna has performed well this year with a 6th place finish in the prestigious NorAm competition which is North America’s premier continental amateur snowboarding event. She also finished second in a Chevy Revolution Tour at Copper Mountain, Colorado last month.
In preparation for Russia, Jenna will compete in two other Chevy Revolution Tour events. She will be at Mount Hood, Oregon February 22 – 24, and then she will come to the east coast with the Schweitzer Alpine Racing School team to compete at Sno Mountain, Pennsylvania from February 29 – March 2. Based on FIS points (International Federation of Skiing and Snowboarding), Jenna also qualified for the Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix which will be held at Tamarack, Idaho on February 8 – 10. The competition is a professional – amateur combined event and will feature many professionals and Olympic athletes competing for $300,000 in prize money.
Jenna is a senior at Mainland High School and plans to attend Colorado University in Boulder this spring to further her education and continue her snowboarding career.

JENNA FELDMAN PODIUM’S AT CHEVY REVOLUTION

Copper Mountain, Colorado – Jenna Feldman, a senior at Mainland Regional High School, from Linwood, New Jersey finished second in the Chevy Revolution Tour snowboardcross competition at Copper Mountain. The Chevy Revolution tour is one of the highest amateur snowboarding events in the country and features an international field of competitors designed to bring together athletes in an open event. Snowboardcross is a snowboarding event in which contestants race side by side with three other competitors down an obstacle course with banked turns and jumps. Each round, the first two finishers advance while the other two are eliminated. The last four contestants compete in one final race for medals. At Copper Mountain, forty female athletes from around the country and Europe, competed for 16 places through time trials.
Jenna will continue to compete in two other Revolution Tours (Mt. Hood, Oregon and Sno Mountain, Pennsylvania). With a 5th place finish in her first Revolution Tour event in Spirit Mountain, Minnesota and now a second place finish at Copper Mountain, Jenna will be allowed to compete in the Grand Prix snowboardcross in Tamarack Idaho this year. The Grand Prix is an invitational competition where professional and amateur snowboarders compete to determine the best in the sport.
She is coached by Mark Harris and trains at Schweitzer Mountain in Sand Point, Idaho. As a member of the USSA(United States Ski and Snowboard Association) and FIS(International Ski and Snowboarding Federation), she has won numerous regional and state events and medaled in national and international snowboarding competitions. |
