March Students of the Month

Freshman: Danny Davis

 (nominated by Mr.Semet)

I have him in Honors B Freshmen English.  He does a great job in class every day.  Even when he was out sick for a few days, he was very adamant about getting caught up.  He has read several non-curricular books for extra credit.  He participated in the Reading Rally last month. He even came in one morning at 7 a.m. (For hours before every other freshmen) to do volunteer work for the Spring play’s catalog.  He is a great kid!

Sophomore: Hayley Dannehower

(nominated by Ms. Watson)

Hayley was a peer mentor in my 8th mod Life Skills class for the first semester.  She worked particularly well with my developmental students. Hayley did an excellent job as a peer mentor.  She is so mature and responsible for her age.  She is very polite and respectful of the students and staff in the class.  She has helped the students in this class tremendously, and her presence alone has brought such a positive impact to the dynamics of the class. She is also involved in many extra curricular activities in the school and does well in her academic classes.  She is such a wonderful role model that deserves to be recognized.

Junior: Brent Caprio

(nominated by Mr. McKeever)

Brett's nomination is based on his work outside the building.  He has many achievements in the classroom and on the playing fields for Mainland but recently he has represented Mainland in our community.  Brett has given his time to the children and students of Somers Point.  He has helped the DARE program, coached the 4th thru 6th grade basketball program and will be helping the little league baseball program.  He has been extraordinary in modeling behavior for our next group of students and this is why I believe he should be considered for student of the month.

Brent Caprio

(nominated by Ms. Klipp)

Brent is an outstanding student and role model for other students. He is an active member of our school and community and is an outstanding scholar. Brent is a member of the football team for 3 years, baseball team for 3 years, basketball team for 2 years, National Honor Society for ½ year, and a member of Freshman mentoring program. Brent's work with the Freshman mentoring program was recently featured in the Press of Atlantic City. Brent recently helped Mr. McKeever coach the basketball team at Jordan Road school. This was a very large commitment for Brent. He is also going to donate his time to Somers Point Little League by umpiring baseball games, which will be another large commitment for Brent. Brent is giving back to his community and is a role model for other students, both within our high school and in the elementary grades. While donating his time, he is also maintains excellent grades. He currently has a B average in my AP Computer Science class and recently made the merit roll.

Senior: Brian Mathis

(nominated by Ms. Lombardelli)

Brian is a senior in my 4th period United States History 2 class. This is Brian's first year at Mainland.  He has lived in many places in our country and has attended many schools.  Brian has assumed a position of leadership in our class which is comprised mainly of sophomores.  Instead of being aloof or uncomfortable, he is encouraging and supportive to his classmates.  His goal in our class this year was to maintain "A" as his average which he is meeting.

Brian is also very patriotic.  He is interested in domestic and foreign affairs and has made plans to enter the United States Air Force this summer .Brian is certainly someone to be proud of at Mainland Regional High School.

Brian Mathis

(nominated by Mr. Giovanetti)

Brian is a 12th grade student who excels in our USII History class. Brian is a pleasure to have in class and brings a refreshing mature attitude to this class each day. Brian is able to discuss in a mature fashion the current subject matter we are studying, politics, or an array of any other pertinent subject matter. It is a pleasure to see a student with such enthusiasm for US History.
